Perinatal PsychologyWhen motherhood isn't unfolding the way you expected
Walking alongside you through trying to conceive, pregnancy, postpartum, and motherhood.

Psicomaterna is the online practice of Jesica Benitez Cabrera, a Licensed Health Psychologist (COPC registration no. 36636) specialising in perinatal psychology. I support women anywhere in the world by video call, in Spanish, Catalan and English, through trying to conceive, pregnancy, pregnancy loss, postpartum and motherhood. The first assessment call, around 20 minutes, is free.
How I can walk alongside you
A safe space, free of judgment, where you can feel understood and held through an especially sensitive stage of your life.
Trying to conceive
Trying to conceive can become a long, silent wait, in which every cycle seems to test your patience and your hope.
Unplanned or unwanted pregnancy
Discovering a pregnancy you weren't expecting can stir up many emotions at once.
Pregnancy
Pregnancy is often imagined as a radiant stage, but for many women it also brings fear, anxiety, and a constant watchfulness that's hard to soothe.
Medical uncertainty in pregnancy
Receiving difficult news about your pregnancy, or waiting weeks for results, can leave you in a state of alert and fear that takes over everything.
Pregnancy or perinatal loss
A pregnancy or perinatal loss is a real grief, even though it's often lived in silence and surrounded by words that bring no comfort.
Postpartum and motherhood
The postpartum can stir up much more than you imagined. And even if you deeply love your baby, that doesn't mean everything has to feel good.
Your relationship with yourself
Often distress is born not only from what happens, but from the way you treat yourself while you go through it.
Couples therapy
Trying to conceive, fertility treatments, a loss, pregnancy, the postpartum or the arrival of children can profoundly change a couple's dynamic.

When I started with Jesica, I was a bit lost and didn't know myself, or didn't think about myself enough. Thanks to her and her methods, which adapted really well to me, I've learned to look inward, and that has helped me value myself, speak to myself kindly, and feel better day to day. She's helped me enormously with the issue that brought me to therapy, and today I feel infinitely better about myself.
Before starting therapy, I spent a lot of time thinking about the future, imagining situations that hadn't even happened and trying to find solutions in advance. I also looked up a huge amount of information to reassure myself, although that reassurance didn't last long. For a long time I didn't think I needed help, until I realized I was spending too much time going over things in my head and that it was starting to affect my day-to-day life. Working with Jesica has helped me understand better how my mind works and, above all, has given me tools to reduce that stress and enjoy the present more. It's not just a space to share my worries, but also a place to learn what to do with them. Now I try to set aside moments for myself, ask myself how I am and identify what I feel more clearly. If there's something that constantly goes around in your head and makes you feel unwell, I think it's worth asking for help.
I don't know how many sessions we've had together but I have to tell you that I'm loving feeling supported by you on this journey, I've never connected like this with a psychologist before and you truly have something special, you're helping me so much even though we still have a way to go! So thank you again🙏
I felt super comfortable with Jesica from the very first moment, I never felt judged, and she got incredibly involved, preparing exercises and doing exercises together, spending more time than scheduled if necessary, and I truly felt so supported through this pregnancy process, mixed with anxiety, fears and insecurities about myself and my partner. Besides her commitment and, as I said, her involvement, she looked for little things and centres where I could go to be supported in person too, and wrote to me at several points to find out how I was doing. I truly appreciate Jesica's great work and her great help so much😊
I recommend her 100%. I started with her because I was very overwhelmed with issues concerning my daughter, and she made me feel understood and listened to, and her tools have helped me a lot to handle things much better. It was well worth it!
